Academic and Enhancement Education
Students are assigned to academic classes based on their skill levels, abilities and ages. Youth transition to and from different classes and have the opportunity to work with several teachers on a daily basis. At CJR, technology skills are introduced, applied and reinforced in the academic setting by integrating computer instruction with the academic curricula. Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education is integrated across the curricula in academic and vocational classes and STEM projects are scheduled regularly by a STEM coordinator. Academic classes include:
- English Language Arts
- Science (with a laboratory component)
- Social Studies
- STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering and Math
CJR students benefit from weekly classes in computer technology, life skills, health and physical education, and wellness. A special education teacher collaborates with each regular academic and vocational teacher and assists in implementing the necessary modifications and accommodations as identified in each student's Individual Education Plan (IEP).
Enhancement classes, including music and creative arts, are also provided. Students have the opportunity to be active participants in extra-curricular activities on CJR's 150-acre campus and within the community.
