Joe: A Student Helped by CJR's Education Programs in
Joe was referred to CJR in his early teens. His family had been fractured by a difficult divorce and he was traumatized, angry, and confrontational. Joe was sent to the principal’s office frequently and struggled in his academic classes.
Joe was more enthusiastic about his agricultural science class and it became a bright spot in his day. Initially, he had an “attitude” about working hard and didn’t follow directions or complete jobs. Joe slowly progressed, however, and his instructor noticed that he was accepting of constructive criticism and strove to improve himself. He gradually honed his skills and became more open and trusting with the other students.
Over time, Joe became an exceptional student. His instructor knew that a wonderful transformation had occurred when he observed Joe taking a leadership role and helping other boys in the class. Joe went on to graduate from CJR and has since started his own landscaping business. While building a clientele, he is also working for a paving company. Joe hopes to develop his own firm to the point where he can sustain himself.
