The Connecticut Junior Republic provides academic, vocational, and related educational services for all students enrolled in our residential treatment program in Litchfield, Connecticut.
Upon admission to CJR, every student completes achievement testing in order to appropriately design an educational plan that best fits his needs.
Students are grouped in self-contained, heterogeneous classes; however, upon recommendation from educational and clinical staff, some students may be placed in a higher-functioning academic classroom environment. Additionally, remedial teachers are assigned to each cottage-based class in order to maximize social inclusion and to assist less-capable students in achieving their educational goals.
All students at Connecticut Junior Republic attend academic classes including language arts, mathematics, science (with a laboratory component), social studies, computer technology, and health & life skills.
Students also choose to enroll in one of eight vocational classes including animal husbandry, horticulture, culinary arts, creative arts, power mechanics, graphic arts, building design and drafting and wood shop.
Additionally, every student enrolls in enhancement classes in fine arts and physical education and attends our six - week summer program. The average student/teacher ratio is six to one.
