FOURTH ANNUAL AUTOMOBILE SHOW TO BE HELD AT JUNIOR REPUBLIC

Litchfield – On Sunday, October 9, the Valley Collector Car Club (VCCC), and the Litchfield Hills Historical Automobile Club (LHHAC) will collaborate with the Connecticut Junior Republic (CJR) in presenting the Fourth Annual Cars for Kids Automobile Show.  This event will be held on the Junior Republic’s Litchfield Campus on Route 63, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with gates opening at 8:00 AM for exhibitors.  The rain date for the event is Sunday, October 16.  Union Savings Bank is the event’s Concours Sponsor and FM 97.3 WZBG is the Media Sponsor.  This event is suitable for the entire family and a variety of activities are planned for young children, including face and pumpkin painting, a scavenger hunt, farm tours and hay rides.  All proceeds from the show will benefit the Connecticut Junior Republic.

Joseph Greco, Chair of the Steering Committee for the Cars for Kids Automobile Show and Treasurer of the CJR Board of Directors, expressed optimism about the success of this year’s benefit.  “Last year, with the help of some very special friends, including Union Savings Bank and FM 97.3 WZBG, local automobile dealers and businesses, and our sponsoring car clubs, we raised approximately $25,000 in net proceeds,” he reported.  Mr. Greco cited over 300 exhibitors, nearly 800 spectators and a loyal corps of more than 100 CJR volunteers, students and staff as important contributors to the success of the 2015 event.  “We are very pleased that the 2016 car show is off to such a strong start,” he continued, “and hope that it will meet or exceed last year’s success in terms of participation and funds raised.”  Mr. Greco indicated that additional sponsorship opportunities are available.

Both the Litchfield Hills Historical Automobile Club and the Valley Collector Car Club are non-profit groups dedicated to the appreciation and preservation of classic automobiles and to supporting charities in the community.

“We welcome antiques, ‘muscle cars,’ trucks, custom cars and street rods, and hope to have 350 exhibitors this year,” said Glenn Royals, President of the Litchfield Hills Historical Automobile Club.  “We also appreciate the support we are receiving from businesses and organizations in the community and hope this show is an increasingly significant fundraiser and vehicle for showcasing the important work of the Junior Republic.”

According to CJR Executive Director Daniel Rezende, the Cars for Kids Automobile Show is eagerly anticipated by students from several of CJR’s program locations.  “Boys and girls from our Torrington and Waterbury Programs will be helping out, along with students from our Litchfield residential programs and the Cable Academic and Vocational Education Center,” he noted.  “Our young people enjoy being a part of this event and will help prepare and serve lunch, provide tours and assist with other parts of the show,” he said.

Exhibitor bags will be provided for the first 200 show car registrants.  The first 100 exhibitors to register will also receive a dashboard plaque.  Automobile entries are $10 per car.  Nearly 25 trophies and awards will be presented at 2:30 P.M.  Spectators are welcome and admission is $5 per car.  Overflow parking will be located at the Goshen Fairgrounds, courtesy of the Goshen Agricultural Society.  Free shuttle service will be provided to the car show.

A variety of breakfast items and a luncheon consisting of a choice of a pulled pork or barbeque chicken breast sandwich plate will be served in CJR’s D’Assern Dining Room.  A Food Court will offer a variety of foods to “eat on the go,” including hot dogs, hamburgers, kielbasa, popcorn, cotton candy, pretzels and ice cream sandwiches.  The Litchfield Aid of CJR will offer home-baked cakes, cookies and other delicious items at its Bake Sale.

Founded in 1904, the Junior Republic provides care, treatment, education and family support for at-risk, special needs and troubled young people so they can become productive and fulfilled members of their homes, schools and communities.  Approximately 1,800 boys and girls are served annually in 11 locations throughout Connecticut.
