Celebrity participants for the day include NBC-30 news anchors Gerry Brooks and Brad Drazen; meteorologist Bob Maxon; and Tom Monahan, formerly NBC-30’s chief political correspondent.
Top contributors include the New Britain-based American Savings Foundation, which is the Premier Sponsor for the event, and TriPoint, which is an Emerald Sponsor. This year’s event will include a Grand Prize drawing for a three-night, four day, all-inclusive stay at the luxurious Majestic Colonial Resort, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, including a generous voucher towards round-trip airfare for two to the Caribbean.
The Mitchell Auto Group, with dealerships in the Farmington Valley and Litchfield Hills, will donate a Volvo S60 Wagon automobile for a Hole in One contest.
According to Sponsors Chair, Jessica Travelstead, net proceeds of at least $55,000 are anticipated, with cumulative net proceeds for the event expected to top $1.3 million. Ms. Travelstead indicated that all monies raised will benefit the approximately 2,500 at-risk, special needs and troubled children, youth and families that the Junior Republic serves annually through 12 program sites throughout Connecticut.

Mr. Phelan has served as Chairman of this event since 2006. "The CJR Invitational and the Connecticut Junior Republic are very fortunate to have such a committed and dedicated team of volunteers and such outstanding support from the business community,” stated Mr. Phelan. "Some of our volunteers have been associated with the event since it was established in 1996, and we now have multiple generations of families involved in leading and supporting this benefit," he continued. "This is a wonderful blessing for the event and for the Junior Republic, and will ultimately help us involve more young leaders in the community while building on the success of a very important fundraiser for CJR,” he said.
Daniel Rezende, Executive Director of the Connecticut Junior Republic, thanked the event’s volunteers for their service. “The outstanding leadership provided by Greg Oneglia, Bob Phelan and our volunteer team, enables us to conduct a memorable event and to raise significant and much-needed funds to help some of Connecticut’s most vulnerable young people and families,” he stated.
