CJR to Hold 15th Annual Scholarship Dinner in Waterbury

CJR TO HOLD 15TH ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP DINNER IN WATERBURY

        On Thursday, June 2nd , the Connecticut Junior Republic will hold its 15th Annual Scholarship Dinner at LaBella Vista in Waterbury, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.  Proceeds raised through this event will provide scholarships for boys and girls who are associated with CJR’s 25 programs in 12 locations throughout Connecticut.  These scholarships will assist students in obtaining a college, university, or technical school education. Scholarships are also given to students who have enlisted to serve their country in the United States Armed Forces or Job Corps, and need financial assistance in fulfilling this commitment.  

        Tickets to the event are $30 per person, and include a buffet dinner of Salad, Pasta, Chicken Marsala, Stuffed Fillet of Sole, Potatoes, Vegetables and Chocolate Mousse Cake.  Entertainment is planned for the evening and will include musical performances and poetry recitals by CJR students.  Approximately 200 sponsors, guests, scholarship recipients and family members are expected to attend.

        Scholarships will be awarded to 19 young people - a record number of awards for CJR scholarships - with recipients referred from all of CJR’s community-based programs across Connecticut.  Tickets may be purchased in advance until Friday, May 26, by contacting the Connecticut Junior Republic (650) 567-9423 ext. 253, or via CJR’s website:  www.ctjuniorrepublic.org.  Tickets will NOT be sold after this date or at the Scholarship Dinner.

        Founded in 1904, the Connecticut Junior Republic (CJR) provides care, treatment, education and family support for vulnerable at-risk, special needs and troubled young people so they may become productive and fulfilled members of their homes, schools and communities.  Today, the organization’s combined programs serve approximately 2,500 boys and girls annually in 12 locations throughout Connecticut.

        The Junior Republic conducts residential programs for court-referred young men on its Litchfield campus.  Regular, special, vocational and alternative education programs are provided for boys from communities throughout Connecticut at CJR’s Cable Academic and Vocational Education Center, which is located on its Litchfield campus.  Enhancement, transition and related services are also provided.

        CJR provides additional residential services for boys at its group homes in East Hartford and Winchester and short-term, residential crisis intervention for girls at its CARE Community Residential Program in Waterbury.  A broad spectrum of prevention, early intervention, family support, and intensive home-based services, and aftercare programs are provided for boys and girls through CJR’s locations in Danbury, East Hartford, Manchester (two sites), Meriden, New Haven, New Britain (two sites), Torrington and Waterbury.  Behavioral and mental health services are provided at many of the above locations, as well.
