GALA FASHION SHOW EVENT TO BENEFIT BOYS AND GIRLS OF THE CONNECTICUT JUNIORU REPUBLIC (CJR)

Litchfield, CT – Julith Sink, President of the Litchfield Aid of the Connecticut Junior Republic (CJR), recently announced that the Aid will hold a new fundraiser, High Style in the Hills, on Saturday, October 4. The gala evening and fashion show will be held at Fairview Farm in Harwinton, CT, and will begin with a cocktail reception at six o’clock, followed by dinner, the runway show and a live auction. This event is being held in lieu of the annual Litchfield House Tour, which the Aid has conducted for the past 66 years.

Declan and Deborah Murphy of Litchfield are chairing the Honorary Committee for the event. Mr. Murphy is President of Novens, a Connecticut based corporation which is a major international distributor of plasma and plasma protein products, and a consultant to major biopharmaceutical corporations and the public health sector in healthcare development worldwide. He is Vice President of the Connecticut Junior Republic’s Board of Directors.

Alexander Duckworth will serve as the evening’s special host. He is President and CCO of Point One Percent, a niche branding, marketing and strategy consulting agency. Behind the scenes, his wife, Gina Duckworth, of Next Models in New York, will orchestrate the presentation of fashions provided by Litchfield area retailers, including: Braeval; R. Derwin Clothiers; Ida’s Bridal; Lawrence Jeffrey Estate Jewelry; Lulu Shoes; Oliphant Designs; Robertson’s Jewelers; Savi CC Custom Jackets; Serendipity; Sportsmens; and The Workshop. In addition, Becket by designer Bunny Donahue will be featured.

According to Ms. Sink, High Style in the Hills will be conducted by the Litchfield Aid as its primary fundraising event for 2014, in place of the organization’s long-established annual Litchfield House Tour. “We are taking ‘a sabbatical’ from our July House Tour this year,” she explained. “Our members voted in favor of giving the House Tour a ‘respite’ and we are very excited about introducing a new event this year,” Ms. Sink continued. “Our 2014 benefit involves local merchants and community leaders in raising funds to support programs at CJR, which help some of Connecticut’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged children,” she said.

Tickets will be sold via the Litchfield Aid of CJR’s website: www.litchfieldaid.org, and are anticipated to be available for purchase in late July. Participation is limited and prompt reservations are advised. To request an invitation, please contact the Connecticut Junior Republic Development Office: 860-567-9423, ext. 278.

Founded in 1904, the Litchfield-based Connecticut Junior Republic (CJR) is a private, charitable organization that provides care, treatment, education and family support for vulnerable, at-risk, special needs and troubled young people so they can become productive and fulfilled members of their homes, schools and communities. Today, CJR’s combined residential and community-based programs serve more than 2,000 boys, girls and families annually in 11 locations throughout Connecticut.

The Litchfield Aid of CJR was founded in 1911 by 12 Litchfield women for the sole purpose of supporting the programs and facilities of the Connecticut Junior Republic. The Aid has conducted a variety of events to raise funds for the benefit of CJR since that time and its last project was the 66th Annual Open House Day Tour of Litchfield, held in 2013.
